21.11.12 – CFHill Gallery – Sixten Sandra Österberg

CFHill Gallery – Sixten Sandra Österberg – Förlorad form – November 10 to November 26, 2021 – Västra Trädgårdsgatan 9, 111 53 Stockholm

ABOUT the artist

Sixten Sandra Österberg, works primarily with painting in a depicting classical tradition. The shapes are often distilled through a deconstructive process which leaves room for unexpected gestures and expressions. In the borderland between physical presence and a state of dissolution, her painting captures, through the materiality of approach and technique, fleeting situations and sensations.

— I, myself, feel more like a sculptor than a painter and am interested in the artistic problem of breaking up physicality and how classic images can be reconstructed during the creative process.

Sixten Sandra’s compositions are often based on photographs she herself has taken or found of her objects. When the main work (painting) begins, the painting takes over and leads the process on to new, often surprising, results. The approach is reminiscent in many ways of how one of the 20th century’s foremost artists, Francis Bacon (1909-1992) worked.

Förlorad form is Sixten Sandras Österberg’s solo debut at CFHILL. Sixten Sandra is studying MFA at Kungl. The Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and has a BFA from the University of the Arts Helsinki, and has studied an exchange year at the prestigious Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna, where she shared a studio with Amoako Boafo. Her work has previously been shown at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, Impropper Wall, Vienna and at Accelerator in Stockholm.
